Hi all!
Not sure if I've ever posted here before, but wanted to weigh in with
a Canadian perspective...

Is this really seen as a Canadian phrase? I've lived in Canada all my
life, and I have never heard a Canadian say this. The only time I ran
across it was a British man I used to work with. He was forever
saying "I'm going to [do whatever], want to come with?" etc.

Ah, yes. I'd guess it was due to our sensitivity at occasionally
being regarded as the 51st state, when we are in fact an independent
country. We're usually quite determined to distinguish ourselves from
the US.
