When one lives downwind (a better term might be downweather) of
a major lake, namely the Great Lakes, one tends to get loads of
snow dumped on one because the cold air comes down from Canada,
picks up a lot of moisture over the large body of water, and
then dumps it shortly thereafter, e.g. on Cleveland, Buffalo,
Rochester . . . Buffalo got an incredible 72 inches in 5 days
recently.
It isn't necessarily the wet and heavy kind of snow--there's just a
lot of it.
