I think she accurately answered both of our objections
in her post responding to mine.

Popular culture's a funny thing, after all.  One
"learns" all sorts of "facts" that later prove to be
urban legend at best, and common deception at worst. 
In most cases, we find things out for ourselves and
correct our impression, but in others, we have to have
out frame of reference adjusted from an outside
source.
