Lol. I recently found and bought a box of Italian 'marron glaces'
(candied chestnuts). I've read scores of books that have mentioned
them and have seen tv chefs rave about them. I served them up at a
dinner with my brother and his family. Well, they tasted like candied
sweet potatoes (at twice the cost per pound too!). Somehow we got to
talking about other foods we've read about and never had tried. Of
course, Turkish Delight came up. My brother's opinion of Turkish
Delight was similar to yours. He couldn't figure out why Edmund would
betray his siblings for a box of Turkish Delight either.
I've read recipes for Turkish Delight and they didn't seem that
horrific. Now after your review and my brother's review, I'm a bit
suspicious. Maybe I should just keep believing that they taste a
little like Aplets and Cotlets?
