More on Turkish Delight

Hi all,

One of my favourite childhood memories concerns Turkish Delight.
Things were tough much of the time, because my father is Manic
Depressive, and it was only diagnosed in recent years, so he was very
up and down during my childhood.

However, he was instrumental in developing my love of books, and one
memory which stands out for me is him reading The Lion, the Witch and
the Wardrobe to me when I was about five years old. When he got to
the bit about Edmund being given Turkish Delight by the Witch, he
produced a box of it for me to try. Not the horrible, Fry's stuff
with chocolate around it, either, but some authentic, Turkish stuff
in a box - a mixture of Rose and Lime flavour. At that age, I loved
it - now I find it a bit too sickly.
