Oh yes!  In fact, that's how some of my best scenes in my fics
are developed... Like last night I had one that featured a truly
evil Draco Malfoy and it clarified a character motivation that
was lacking in my current WIP... I've also had some fun ones
about getting a job helping develop wares for Fred and George's
joke shop...

None romantically based--that I can remember, at any rate! :)
