They *should* check the signature, and I am glad to see some stores
here do it consistently but not all places. Like at gas stations (or
petro stations for y'all). You just swipe the card and pump the gas.
No one ever looks to see whose card you have, and you don't have to
sign anything. Some grocery stores are that way too with self
check-out lines. Really it is up to the card holder to check their
statements to see if any unwarranted charges are on the bill.
Also, kids have been forging their parents' signatures in schools for
years. By the time they are old enough to go shopping on their own,
they are generally quite good at it. Most of the time my friends
would write the first initial and sign the last name. Sometimes that
is not lying either since their first initial is the same as their
parents. They just take advantage of the clerk for not knowing any
better. Mostly, clerks don't check, and especially in high price
stores where they want to retain their money spending customers.
I will say that my parents *never* let my brother or I have the credit
card, but then again, my parents enjoyed shopping with us as we did
with them. It never bothered me.
