Another Fanfic Query: rule breaking fanfics

There seem to be some pretty basic and quasi universally 
accepted "rules" for good fanfic.  No obvious Mary Sues, no 
ridiculous super powers for characters, etc.  I'm wondering what you 
think are the best fan fics that break these rules and get away with 
it.  Much of the best fiction is what breaks convention and does the 
forbidden, I thought this might make an interesting thread.  Ina  
related question, who is your favorite fannon Mary Sue? (OC or VOC 
(virtually original character, cannon mentioned but not developed.)
