These are not just freak accidents, which as you pointed out can
happen anywhere, anytime, but mostly they are caused by morons who
leave loaded guns or ammunition lying around where their uneducated
kids can get their hands on them. That doctor doesn't know that you
are not one of those morons, and I'm glad he asks.

But then shouldn't he also ask if her children always wear their
seatbelts (properly fitted by a professional, of course), their
helmets when riding their bikes, whether they're always supervised
when around more than an inch of water and all the other common,
potentially lethal hazards to children? It seems to be a statement,
more than a concern.
