"The Body Snatchers " (SPOILER)

Hey,

I just finished reading "The Body Snatchers," and I liked it very 
much.  But I have a little problem.

I, er, didn't get it.  <wince>

See, I was right with the story up until the last sentence, the big 
plot twist at the end where the body they snatch turns out to be a 
body that has already been dissected.

But how did that happen?  What did I miss?  What was the *point?*

Oh, I feel so *stoopid!*
