William poundstone's Big Secrets books describe a lot of stage magic 
with some instructional detail. I know vaguely how to saw a woman in 
half, vanish an elephant and put steel through steel, all through his 
books. You can find them via Amazon - and get some interesting secret 
recipes at the same time!
