I was in kindergarten when the Challenger tragedy happened, and I've
never been sure if I really remember it happening or if I've just
heard about it so much that I've built up a recollection over the
years. I've heard my mom say countless times that the only way she
could explain the horror of the situation to me is that there was a
teacher on board who had a little girl like me, and that that little
girl would never be able to hug her mommy again. That was pretty
darn terrifying for a 6-year-old to hear--even now, at 23, it's an
upsetting thought. How terrible that there are now 7 more families
faced with that unthinkable reality.
