you recognise an Australian accent?

I certainly would. One of mother's first cousins married a woman from
Perth (met her there during WWII), so I was exposed to Aunt Una's
Aussie accent thousands of times during my childhood. I've always
thought it was a fairly strong accent, so I've been surprised that
people like Kidman and Mel Gibson can turn it off so they can
sound "American". Of course there are probably at least 50
different "American accents" - Louisiana (where I grew up) has at
least 3 different accents.
