I may just be picky here, but in the UK it may be less *general* than you
may think! People with PhDs should be called *DR*, however medical *Drs* do
not have PhDs so in theory they should not be called *DR*, however they are
awarded an Honourary Doctorate, and rather obviously they are called *DR*.
