Oh, are they out already?  The marketing 
materials for that series had read: 

"Simon & Schuster is proud (and a bit 
wary) to present The Spiderwick 
Chronicles, Tony DiTerlizzi & Holly 
Black, August 2003."  I remember that 
series because I had wanted to see how 
the authors' would present:

- Hogsqueal the Hobgoblin
- Byron the Griffon
- Thimbletack the Brownie
- Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to 
the Fantastic World Around You (to 
include original notes and drawings)
- The Seeing Stone

I distinctly remember thinking that 
they should try and *beat* OotP to 
the shelves!
