Boob Tube:  A television set. (Boob: "A stupid or
foolish person; a dolt" (who watches too much
TV); Tube: the cathode ray tube of a TV
receiver.)  Another term used is the idiot box.

The boob tube you described is what I would call
a tube top.  See, I am going to have to learn a
new language. LOL
