SNAFU - supposedly a 'military' term:  situation normal, all f**cked 
up

cluster - my sister's shorthand for another supposed military term:  
clusterf**k

FUBAR (my personal favorite) - f*cked up beyond all repair

running on fumes - almost out of gas/fuel in the car
