We in the U.S. have the advantage of Thanksgiving Day, the 4th

Stores used to hold off on Christmas decorations until the day after
Thanksgiving (a.k.a. the biggest shopping day of the year because of
all the special sales), but I saw X-mas decorations for sale on the
aisle next to the Halloween candy this year. They're no longer
honoring the Thanksgiving barrier, bless their greedy little hearts.
Me, Beth:
This always used to bother me, especially when I worked retail, but
I think I'm completely desensitized now and just look for the
biggest bargain. Sigh.
Dicentra:
I won't put up my own Christmas decorations until the day after
Thanksgiving. The neighbors down the street (with the display you
can see from orbit) were rigging up their stuff last weekend. I
still have my Halloween decorations perched in the windowsill
(laziness, not principle).

Beth: I have purposefully looked for Thanksgiving decorations so I
could have an excuse not to put up Christmas decorations until after
Thanksgiving (because doesn't it seem /un-thankful/ to ignore it?),
but when I look at the tasteful outdoor displays of some of my
neighbors (not all of my neighbors, but that's another story) I have
to admit there is wisdom in trying to attach the lights before it
freezes! Has anyone found a solution for those of us who live where
it could very well snow before Thanksgiving?
