Christmas presents - one at a time or all at once?

That idea dates back to the Roman Republic.  On Saturnalia (which is 
the festival that Christmas was designed to replace - the dates 
largely match) Roman's would be expected to wait on their slaves, for 
that day only.  

Actually, I've never come across that tradition myself as a Brit - 
but there are a lot of regional and local traditions around.
