Fanny was a common diminutive for Frances - certainly in the
1930's. Read Nancy Mitford's "Love in a Cold Climate" and "The
Pursuit of Love" the main narrator is a thinly disguised version of
Nancy herself called the Honourable Frances Logan, known to all and
sundry as Fanny.
Fanny Burney the 19th century author.
Fanny Price in Mansfield Park.
