Sock suspenders. And the very thought of them makes me giggle.

We had a famous comedy duo called Morcambe and Wise. Part of their
show was to do a very silly and very funny adaptation of some
classic play. In it, Eric Morecambe used to regularly show up in
costume - and sock suspenders. Even in a version of Cleopatra.
