Another tip from my mom...

If you want to keep earwigs away from your plants, then put this contraption
together:

take a bottlecap from a 2 liter plastic bottle
an open and cleaned tunafish can (other type of larger, but preferably
shallow, containers will do)
soy sauce
vegetable oil  (the light kind works best)


Put the bottlecap in the middle of the can and fill the cap with soy sauce
fill the can with the oil up to about 2/3 the height of the bottlecap
place a few of these in your garden


Here's how it works...  The smell of the soy sauce attracts the earwigs.
When they try to get to the sauce, they get stuck in the oil and covered...
so they can't climb back out of the container.  They either drown in the
oil, or are simply trapped.
