Jen Reese:

> Middle School: Grades 6 (or 7)-8th grade<

KathyK adds:
This can also been referred to as junior high school, although I
think that term is on its way out. But I definitely went to Dodd
Jr. High Scool rather than Dodd Middle School as the sign now
proclaims.

Jen Reese:
>Then we have 4-year Colleges and Universities, but I can't remember
the distinction between the two--Is a College one where you can only
get a 4-year degree; and a University one where you can also get
Graduate degrees?<

KathyK:
That's my understanding of it, too. But whether one attends a
college or university, it's usually referred to by the students
as "going to college" rather than "going to university."

The only time it ever made a bit of difference to anyone at my
university was when our president referred to it as a college rather
than a university when welcoming President Bush there a few years
back. I think we found it annoying that our own school president
couldn't get our name right. Don't know why...Of course our
president was a very interesting character. He really liked to get
right in there and do things like *shudder* conduct our chorus
concerts or play a victim in EMT training classes. Oops, tangent.
