Sounds as if you'd enjoy reading Tom Holt's 'Odds and Gods'.
The Aztecs or who-ever worship a god represented by a giant set of false
teeth soaking in a volcano full of denture cleanser. Human sacrifices
are the result of bad temper brought on by toothache - caused by?
You guessed it.

For those  who've never read Tom Holt -  shame on you! Much funnier
than Terry Pratchett IMO, or his first 6 or 7 books are anyway.
