Interesting.  I've heard this superstition before, but can't remember all the details.  It's of Russian origin I think.  My ex-husband gave me a Swiss Army Knife as a wedding present, we divorced 2 years later, on fairly good terms, but definitely a clean break.  Maybe it's worthwhile to think before giving a boyfriend a knife--*grin*.
