For my fifth anniversary when I worked for AT&T Bell Labs, one of the gifts
one could choose was a lovely pocket knife with the original "Golden Boy"
logo on it...probably valuable now.  Anyway, my supervisor kept trying to
dissuade me by offering me one of the bracelets in gold tone or something
like that.  I told her that if I wanted a bracelet, I would want real gold
or real silver and not some tone thereof, and I did want the knife.

So, I got the knife.  She came in and said, "Happy anniversary...I think??"
<Grin>

I love that knife; we kept in touch for some time until she moved and then
lost touch, but we did remain friends after the knife.

I discourage people from giving me perfume unless they *Really* know what I
like because of allergies. :-)
