"Equally not wanting to offend, I must still wonder whether you have lead a bit of a sheltered life yourself. There are many many phobias that cause people great anxiety and panic under certain circumstances.
I saw one on TV recently where a woman had an unnatural fear of making
left turns. ...it was disabling. She still drove a car, but would use maps to plan out elaborate routes to get where she wanted to go making only
right-hand turns.
Fear, panic, and anxiety at leaving your house is far far more common... And, it is /truly/ disabling, as painful and limiting as any other disability."

Wow, did you ever hit home! I don't know if you're in Britain (where they drive on the left) or North America(where they drive on the right), but when I drove in the States, I always planned routes not to have any unprotected left turns because I just didn't trust myself to judge the distance of the on-coming traffic. Actually, have to admit though that I did generally try to avoid left turns all together because even a protected left turn can really hold up one's trip since the left turn arrow is usually very short, and in heavy traffic a significant delay. But get this, I once read in a Triple A guide that a driver should generally plan a trip with the fewest turns as possible for maximum safety. So maybe this lady just had an exaggerrated fear due to her lack of depth perception.

I honestly used to be the happy, bubbly,
rather hyperactive person you all know me as,
outside the computer. But sadly that was
stripped away from me.
Oh I did have a job once...a job I loved more
then anything. You see, I was an actress,
from a young age. It was my passion, my gift.
I wanted nothing more then to stay on that
stage and bask in the glare of lights. But...it's rather hard to continue your dream, when you spend
every moment before stepping on that stage in
a fit of panic, struggling to keep from
screaming, vomiting, or just generally going
insane...."

OK, now I get your point. This is basically what a counselor told me many years ago. A phobia, by definition prevents, a person from doing something that he really wants to do.
Have to admit that this is a sensitive subject for me. I went to counseling many years ago because it was generally thought that I'm agoraphobic. After a few sessions, the counselor concluded that I wasn't, but simly a "very private person" as he put it--ie too much racket and too many people just get on my nerves to the point of causing many of the symptoms that you described. Subsequent psychological tests backed up this counselor's (and my) opinion--so who knows? Whatever the case, I sincerely hope and pray that you will one day overcome these phobias and return to acting. It's such a shame to let a wonderful talent go to waste.
A little aside, I prepare Astrological Natal Charts, my love for peace and quiet is a dominant theme in my Natal Chart. If you'd like to contact me off-list, I'd be happy to prepare yours.
Health and Happiness to all,
