<< Well, I have to admit, I *don't* like the way they've written Ron's
character for the movie. It seems to me that he's been made much more
of a lightweight than he actually is in the books. I mean, this is the
guy who figured out the chess game and sacrificed himself for the
others. THAT'S the Ron I like. I think they've made him into the
'comic sidekick' and I don't always agree with that. >>

I completely agree with you, and it was worse in the latest movie
(PoA) where Ron was portrayed as some kind of coward, always scared
all the time. G'rrr.

(I never miss one of her posts). >>

Ooh, a compliment! Thank you! (I love compliments.)

<< OK, I see the quote, and I see the connection to Snape, but it is a
very very thin connection. I still think 'Sirius' should occur in
place of 'Snape' in the original quote I commented on. >>

I always thought that the 'Snape might call it cleaning' referred to
Snape's sneering vocal tone's implicationn that Sirius was spending
his time on mere 'household chores', not 'real work'.

<< Sirius being Harry's godfather (snip) does not have to have any
religious connections, despite the continued use of the term
GODparents.........and considering all those witch burnings in the
middle ages, I don't think wizards and witches hold much stock for
religion!!!! >>

The wizards and witches are human beings, and besides they have a
continual influx of Muggleborns, so I think there would be some
witches and wizards who are very religious and some who are a little
religious and probably some who are militant atheists. What I
personally think would be a big difference between wizarding and
Muggle religion is that the wizarding folk being so conservative and
anarchic, some of the purebloods would never have given up their
pre-Christian religion, altho' they might have merged all their
Celtic, Saxon, Roman, Hellenistic Paganism into one Established
Religion. However, I don't think Rowling has that in HER Potterverse.

Her Potterverse seems to resemble the Muggle RL more than I think is
plausible -- for example, QUIDDITCH THROUGH THE AGES tells of
wizarding USA as a place which speaks English, practises wand-based
magic, and plays Quodpot instead of Quidditch. I think there would be
a great deal more Native American wizards, better able to defend
themselves and/or hide themselves from the Euro-American colonizers
than the Native American Muggles, clinging to their own languages and
own magic systems and their game would be a form of Lacrosse rather
than of Football.
