Again, yes, but I'm not sure we can completely rule out that Harry 
sees him or a contemporary of his.  I agree that it's a bit much for 
Harry to time travel 1000 years, but JKR may produce a magical 
device that allows one to look back a long way in time.  What, for 
example, happens to the thoughts in a Pensieve when their owner 
dies?  And would Riddle's diary have continued to work if it had 
stayed intact and Voldemort had died?

On the whole I do think though that the person in the extract from 
HBP is a modern person, while the HBP himself may well be a 
historical person.
