Now this is a better theory! And now I'm kicking myself that I didn't think of it 
myself.....though I do have something to add.....

If indeed we are talking about a picture of GG, my assumption would be that 
all you would have to do to have a chat with old Godric is wander into 
Dumbledore's office......we know he has portraits of all the old headmasters/
mistresses....why not the founder/s as well? 

but even more intriguing.....if indeed there are portraits of the founders, where 
is Salazar's portrait? Certainly would have been useful in CoS!!
