I have also been reading the Robet Jordan "The Wheel of Time" series.  My sister got me started on it.  If you can get past chapter 1 of the first book, then you are hooked.  You just have to get down that silly road!!!  The last couple of books have been a little slow.  The characters are a bit scattered (across the continent) and he has to bring them all back together soon.  There are only 2 books left.  He has written 1 prequel and I understand that he is going to write 2 more.  He has also sold the rights to a TV series/mini series/movie to Red Eagle Productions and they are getting ready to adapt it to film.
