Not a hundred percent sure, but I think the young actor playing
Goyle had to take time off for his GCSEs. These are public
examinations in England and Wales that you take at 15 or 16 - OWLs
are loosely based on them.
The time of exam is set by the examination board and may not be
varied - though there is some leniency about location if there is
genuine illness.
They're important, because entry to higher education and many jobs
depends on you achieving certain grades, so it wouldn't surprise me
if his sitting the exams was considered more important than his
being available to film.
