Have you read the "So You Want to Be A Wizard" books? I read them
when I ran out of Harry Potter books during eye surgery recovery.
They are not as good as Harry Potter, but they are good. Funny, we
got them new at the store, and as I was reading them I kept
thinking, "Oh my god, she is gonna get in trouble for plagiarizing
J.K. Rowling!". But it turns out that these books were written way
before the Harry Potter series, back in the very early 80s. The
author is Diane Duane. (thanks to my elf for that one)
