Anneli now:

Speaking of radio programmes - was it mentioned that JK was interviewed
on The Learning Curve (programme about education) in March? If not,
it's available to listen to on the Radio 4 website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/factual/learningcurve_20040316.shtml

I don't know how long it is as several other people are also interviewed
on the programme, so it's probably only a few minutes. (Sorry if it's
been mentioned already - I wasn't keeping up with postings in March.)

SINGLE PARENTING and EDUCATION

Libby Purves discusses single parents and education with the author J K
Rowling whose own fairy tale story of rags-to-riches lone parenthood is
almost as well known as her famous creation, Harry Potter.

J K Rowling arrived in Scotland as a single parent with no income of any
sort.  While her poverty and the writing of The Philosopher's Stone in
cafes have become the stuff of legend, it is a less known fact that at the
same time she was borrowing money from her friends to complete a teacher training degree, and teaching French in schools.
