Hello and Happy Birthday to another August baby (I turn 22 next
week!). Meri here, please to join in for a cuppa of hot coccoa!
* Name(s) - Meri or meriaugust
* Provide the etymology of your signature/handle/moniker/email
address. In other words, how and why did you choose the name
you use on the HPfGU lists. - I usually sign "Meri" which is short
for "Merideth". My parents spelled it that way but always
wrote "Merry" until I got completely sick of being called "Merry
Christmas" (which I still am) and so I changed it to "Meri". I found
out later that "Meri" is actually an Old Norse/Celtic word
for "ocean" which suits me as I am from New England and love to
swim/be on boats. "Meriaugust" is my nickname and my birth month -
August babies rule!
* Whose signature/handle/moniker/email address at HPfGU
(a) do you wish you had come up with first? - "Quigonginger" I read
that one about five times before I really got it and now I read
every one of her posts. Star Wars fans also rule.
(b) intrigues you? - "phoenixgod2000" Who is this phoenixgod and why
doth he be a god?
* If you lived in the Potterverse, who would you be, and what
would you do for a living? - Minerva McGonagall, stern but fair
Hogwarts professor. Or a professional Oliver Wood groupie.
* What would you see in the Mirror of Erised? - My true love,
whoever he is, holding a Brigham's vanilla ice cream with chocolate
jimmies on top.
* What shape would a boggart take, if you chance upon one? -
Something dark and scary; I hate things jumping out of the dark at
me.
* What happy memory will you rely upon, if you are to conjure up a
Patronus? - A July 3rd from two years ago: fireworks, bonfires, good
food, poker, and a charming old friend.
* What form might your Patronus take? - My dog.
* What might your animagus form be? - A cat, though hopefully not
something unattractive like a bug.
* What gifts would you register for in Diagon Alley? Or would it be
Knockturn Alley? How about at Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes? - Magic
wand, Firebolt, Fizzing Whizbees, and a neverending supply of potion
ingredients. Plus that model of the solar system.
* Times being what they are...what is your favorite flavor of jam?
What is your dearest ambition? - Strawberry jam and traveling around
the world and to outer space.
* Which of the HP books is your favorite? - Goblet of Fire.
* Who is your favorite character? - Other than Harry, Neville and
Cedric Diggory.
* What do you hope will happen in Book 7? - I want to see Ginny go
off with Harry, Ron and Hermione to track down the horcruxes. I also
want to see Malfoy redeem himself and for Neville to finally get a
girl.
* What do you think will happen in Book 7? - Harry's probably gonna
die - I'm making my peace with it.
* Given all the books whose titles are canon (see http://www.hp-
lexicon.org/wizworld/books.html ) which would you read cover to
cover *first*? - Hogwarts, A History.
* What's in your Scrapbook for JKRowling.com ? - Everything.
* What's your personal best for Expert Level Minesweeper? - I'm a
solitaire girl, meself.
* When did you join HPfGU? How did you find us? - June of 2003,
just after Order. I found you through the Fantastic Posts.
* Point us to your delurking post...how was that maiden voyage? - It
was one about whether or not Draco would even go back to Hogwarts
after dear old dad got arrested. I remember I was brushing my teeth
when I thought of it.
* What things about you often come as a surprise to others? - That I
went camping and whitewater rafting, as am usually an indoor girl.
Amd that I'm over seventeen, people tend to think that I am still in
high school.
* Things you do when not staring at the computer: Reading, watching
movies, hanging with my friends, listening to music, photography,
scrapping, running, anything I set my mind to really.
Also, I am a confirmed Hufflepuff (with a touch of Gryffindor here
and again...ironically all of my friends are Slytherins), I have
gotten 103 questions right in a row in the Scholastic challenge, I
have scored a 74% on the HP obsession test (I have other interests,
but am still pretty obsessed) and am patiently waiting to purchase a
Diggory T-shirt to wear to the opening of GoF.
Peace out everyone, and here's to another five years of nuttiness.
Meri
