It IS Regulus.  The Lexicon have confirmed from a 'well placed source' 
that it is him and his middle name is not Alphard, but Arcturus.

I want to know if it's on the lexicon does that mean that the well 
placed source is JKR? Because they only really deal with canon don't 
they.  Apparently Arcturus is a star - the bear watcher, and the fourth 
brightest star in the sky, (which fits nicely with the rest of the 
Black family)

As a lot of suspected this was the case (and JKR said it was a very 
good guess at the TLC/Mugglenet interview) we have been speculating for 
a while, but now, well ... roll on 07/07/07!!
