whether to keep him (and be an enslaver) to free him (and provide his 
enemies with a goldmine of intelligence to be used against him and 
the OOP)

It's irrelevant, we will never hear of it again.

Two possibilities: 1) A brand-new character or 2) Albus Dumbledore. 
If 2), then Snape becomes the new Headmaster. Watch for - does Harry 
receive a high-enough grade on his Potions OWLS to continue to study 
with Snape? If he does, then it's Possibility #1 - if not, then Snape 
needs the job title change in order to stay central to the plot.

Yes, but not till Book Seven.

Jorkins on SPT to break it out of her memory), one of the twins (or 
if not one of them, then Molly), Pettigrew (who'll redeem himself by 
sacrificing his life to save Harry). Dumbledore dies toward the end 
of seven and Hagrid survives the series.
