Yes, I was quite surprised - I'm a Snape as well.  Though I've been
out of the Navy for ten years, my last assignment was an electronics
instructor at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center.  I received
consistantly high markes in my performance evaluations as an instructor.

I never really thought of Snape as a "bad" teacher.  Harry is of
course not an exemplary student, either.  It certainly doesn't help
matters that the two of them don't like each other.

I've warmed up to Snape during my rereadings of the books.  I somehow
feel that there is some very important work left for him.  I hope he
doesn't disappoint.  I have high hopes for Draco as well, as he
reminds me of someone I once knew who had a major life altering change
occur.
