Following on from a TT issue spinning off from GoF and also CoS...

You're right - it's not altogether satisfactory.
The reason the TT logic is convoluted is because JKR didn't work out the 
underlying principles in the first place, the most significant of which is that you 
can't go back and save yourself from a fatal (or near fatal encounter) if you 
only survive that encounter by going back to save yourself - all on the same 
evening as well!! That just makes it even worse, and it registers a maximum 
"10" on the Flawed Logicometer. I just don't understand why people are so 
happy to desperately dream up a million different ways to make up for a weak 
plot-device which simply doesn't work in the first place. JKR does not walk on 
water, folks, and tyhe introduction and the implimentation of the TT shows it. 
Wake up and smell the coffee - you ARE allowed to!
