Betty,

I'm blind too.  When OOTP came out, I pre ordered my audio version at a
barns and noble store.  I asked a sighted friend to take me at midnight.
She's the kind of friend who doesn't read much, but she thought the idea of
going at midnight and being in with the crowd would be fun.  We had two
other blind people with us.  We all had a blast!  And I got my book and
started reading it as soon as I got home.  Maybe, you could start planning
now to do something like this.  Or plan to take a taxi or something.  But
even if you don't want to go at midnight, if you preorder it, you can go
into the store in the morning and get your copy right away.

I was on the Wal-Mart website, and it guarenteed delivery on the 16th
(even with the cheep shipping option) and it was cheeper than the
price that it will be released at.  $19.84 including  shipping!  So, if you
don't mind waiting a few hours until the mail runs, you can save about  $10
or so, and not have to deal with the lines at the stores!

Now me, Betty:
You are incredibly lucky, you people that can go to the store at midnight or
order it online and have it shipped to you and still get it on the day it's
released. I'm blind and have to have the audio. I use amazon.com for
preordering books and it's been a real frustration, though I've saved
serious cash that way.
I preordered OotP in hardback for my dad and audio for me. Dad got it the
day it was released. Did I? Oh, no, never mind that we live in the same
house! It was Tuesday or Wednesday before I got it. Back when Goblet of Fire
came out, I preordered the casettes, and what did I get when I got the book
a few days after its release? Hardback! So then I had to run out to the
local Barnes And Noble anyway.
Not yet sure what I'm going to do this time.
