HP withdrawal remedies

To prevent the development of a full blown obsession brought on by
rereading the series over and over again (I'm currently a graduate
student in clinical psychology, so I didn't think that was a good
idea!), does anyone have any recommendations for novels to read
until the greatly anticipated date of July 16th?

I think that what I loved most about HP is that you immediately get
absorbed in the story and characters. I'm looking for something
written in a style like Rowling's - she expertly creates a
captivating world for readers without using a verbose and overly
metaphorical style that sometimes convolutes the story.

So far, everything I pick up just doesn't do it for me! I am usually
an avid Stephen King reader, but lately I've wanted a change from
scary, sci-fi thrillers and now prefer a "feel-good" book like HP. I
love the magical world of wizards and spells and young characters in
HP and wish to find something else like it:) The problem is that now
I'm finding it hard to find a book for adults that is written as
purely and brilliantly as HP.

Please help!
Becca :)
