[HPFGU-OTChatter] "...full blown obsession..."?

I highly recommend some HP fan fiction, if you haven't read any. I only
started reading it a couple months ago, and I'm thoroughly hooked.

If you like fantasy in general, I suggest the Song of Ice and Fire series by
George R R Martin. These are not in any way kids books, but they are great
fantasies with complex characters. In fact, one thing I like about them,
that I also like about Harry Potter is that the characters are complex and
most of them aren't clearly defined good or bad. There can be characters
who are the "good guys" doing the most terrible things, but then you turn
around, and there are despicable bad guys doing incredibly good things. I
like it a lot. It's projected to be a six part series, with the fourth
coming out around the same time as HBP. The first three books are:

A GAME OF THRONES
A CLASH OF KINGS
A STORM OF SWORDS

To prevent the development of a full blown obsession brought on by
rereading the series over and over again (I'm currently a graduate
student in clinical psychology, so I didn't think that was a good
idea!), does anyone have any recommendations for novels to read
until the greatly anticipated date of July 16th?

Well, have you tried any Harry Potter fanfic? There's a number of
novel-length fics written by & for grownups, like Paradigm of
Uncertainty, the Draco trilogy, the Stealing Harry series, etc, and
shorter fics as well (http://www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/Lori,
http://www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/Cassandra_Claire and
http://www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/Samvimes respectively).

Other hp fans through the years have enjoyed novels like Jasper Fforde's
Thursday Next series and Neil Gaiman/Terry Pratchett's Good Omens series
is having another resurgence of popularity.

Just some starts.
