She would have to be between 11 and about 18, independent of that
information, since she was a student when she died.

Carol responds:
For some reason, I was under the impression that she was a second-year
when she died, maybe because that's what Harry and his friends are
when they first encounter her. Certainly she seems close to Harry's
age in both her behavior and her reaction to him. I suppose she might
be a bit older since she has a pimple or two, but given her tears and
tantrums she can't be more than about thirteen. Or so I would hope.
And Headmaster Dippet refers to her as a "little girl" (CoS Am. ed.
244). But I should have said "about twelve" rather than "twelve."
