[HPFGU-OTChatter] Movies vs. Books

I think JKR does have some say, such as saying that certain things must be
left in or keep out because of future events in the series. I would doubt
that she has herself totally involved in it, because that would take up a
lot of time, from family and writing. Besides, as a writer myself, I would
so dread to be involved in the process of having someone pick apart my baby
for suitable filming. I also think that we don't have a director and
writers who have loved and studied the books for a long time and who are
committed to honoring them through film. What Peter Jackson did for LOTR is
highly unusual and could have been disastrous in some ways. There was a lot
of talk before Fellowship of the ring was released about how the movies
would be received. Many pundits doubted the success of the movies because
of the way Jackson filmed them all at once and worked so hard to stay so
true to canon, even thought he did have to change some things. But the LOTR
fans and scholars and newbies loved them. I think it will take someone
years down the road, to come to the HP books in that way, before we can get
the wonderfully detailed and truly committed masterpieces such as LOTR. And
then, when we do, we'll be more able to accept the changes that have to be
made to tell the story, because we'll know the people involved only change
what they must to tell the story the best way in film. But we all know that
the WB just wants to have a rapidly producing cash cow. so, that time isn't
now. But who knows what can happen even by films 5, 6, or 7. I'm thinking
though that if GoF is as bad as POA, I may not bother to waste my time to
see more HP movies after that.

I love reading the books better because it is so well
written and when you watch the movies they take out a
lot whats happening in the books and it messes the
movie up. I wish JK Rowling could say something about
that.
