Annemehr, responding to Chancie's question about baby talk:

>>>On the other hand, sometimes you will find a child who never talks at
all until the age of two or three, at which point he will come out
with complete sentences<<<

***Mary Ann shoves forward her 6-year-old son whose reading ability is two years above his age***

This little guy didn't talk 'til he was 3 1/2. When he first started talking his words were inverted, which was a bit worrying, but now he's fine and talking late certainly hasn't hampered his literacy skills. In fact, he could write his letters and numbers before he could say them. Some kids just do stuff the other way 'round.

Annemehr again:

>>>Then of course, when they do start talking, they never shut up until
they hit the teenage years. *eyeroll*<<<

***eyerolls with Annemehr*** My oldest, who's now 7, said all of 6 words on her second birthday and by the time she was 2 1/2 I was looking for the off button. The girl hasn't shut up since! ;) But, as with her brother, her literacy skills are above average, so no damage done.

So please, Chancie, don't worry about your child not "keeping up" with other kids. By the time they're in kindergarten, they're all pretty much at the same level. And the quiet ones are taking it all in, believe me. :)

Mary Ann, who can easily out-talk her daughter so should complain about her
