You may be interested to know that 'The Big Over Easy', my new book in
the Nursery Crime series is just about to be published. It will be
available to UK readers from the 11th July and in the USA only fourteen
days later, on the 25th July.
Thursday Next is taking a well earned break, and leaving the limelight
to Detective Inspector Jack Spratt.
Jack is head of the Reading Nursery Crime Division and has long suffered
under the shadow of the flashy Detective Friedland Chymes who dominates
the exclusive Guild of Detectives and has an astonishing number of cases
published in Amazing Crime Stories. Jack remains unpublished and yet to
be invited into the Guild.
It’s Easter in Reading - a bad time for eggs - and no one can remember
the last sunny day. Ovoid D-Class nursery celebrity Humpty Dumpty, minor
baronet, lover of women, ex-convict, and former millionaire
philanthropist, is found shattered to death beneath a wall. Yes, the big
egg is down.
Jack Spratt has just suffered the spectacular failure to see the three
pigs convicted for the murder of a certain Mr. Wolf, and now, with his
new partner, Sergeant Mary Mary, it is up to Jack to find the key to
Humpty’s death. Delving into Humpty’s secretive and sordid past
reaches into the highest echelons of Reading society and, before long
Jack and Mary find themselves grappling with a sinister plot involving
cross-border money laundering, bullion smuggling, beanstalks, Titans
seeking political asylum and the cut and thrust world of international
chiropody.
And on top of all that - the Jellyman is coming to town...
