My gratitude to JK Rowling

I am a thrity-seven year old mother of two daughters (8 and 11) with
whom I have shared my love (obsession) of Harry Potter. I wish there
were a way I could truely express my gratitude to JK Rowling for
creating the literary world of Harry Potter. My girls saw the SS and
CoS movies before hearing the words from the books, and were fans of
that medium instantly. When I thought they were old enough, I read
all five books to them. Ok, so I needed an excuse to read the series
again, but can you think of a better reason? My youngest immediately
recognized the differences between the books and movies. "That's not
how the movie goes, Mommy!" she would say. "That's right, honey, but
you have to remember, the books tell the whole story. You can't get
into the characters' heads in the movie. The books tell a more
complete story."

So my kids have a greater appreciation for the written word. Thank
you JK Rowling! Before they found HP, reading a book was nearly
punishment. Now when I insist they go to sleep, I hear "Can I please
finish this chapter?" from my oldest. And, let's not slight the
movies. At least once every weekend one of my brood asks to watch
one of the HP movies. I recently purchased the soundtrack for PoA.
What a wonderful cd that is! Now my children (unknowingly) have
gained a love for orchestral music. We spent a 25 minute car ride
identifying the musical instruments we heard on the cd.

All I can do is post my appreciation on this list where adults
understand how I feel about the world JK Rowling has created. Thank
you Ms. Rowling for expanding my daughters horizons and giving us
something fantastic to be excited about *together*!
