HPfGU Chats

Greetings OTC!

Since the ability to create user rooms in Yahoo! Chat is no 
longer unavailable, our work-around of the problematic chat 
rooms offered by Yahoo!Groups is no longer, well, working.  

If you are able to access the chat room at the main list 
( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HPforGrownups/chat ), 
please feel free to continue to use it.  If you are unable to 
access chat at main list but *does* have Yahoo!Messenger 
installed (available at http://messenger.yahoo.com ) read 
on.  :)

So, please bear with us list elves as we try this new work-
around.  Stay tuned to OTC because I'm sure we'll be 
tweaking the following.  What you need to do:

USE THE CONFERENCE FEATURE IN Y!MESSENGER

1.  everyone interested in chatting via Y!Messenger add 
this ID, HPfGU_Chat, to their list of friends

2.  whenever you wish to chat with other HPfGU list members, 
sign in as yourself and see if HPfGU_Chat is already online 
(see note *)

3.  send a YM to HPfGU_Chat and ask to be invited to 
conference

But if HPfGU_Chat is not already online or does not respond:

a.  check that on your version of Y!Messenger you are 
able to invite people to conference first

b.  sign in as HPfGU_Chat (password: chitchat; do not log 
in under invisible mode!) and wait for someone else to 
come online and YM you

c.  start a conference and just "invite to conference" as 
people YM you; even if there's only two of you, please use 
the conference feature when signed in as HPfGU_Chat

* Signing on to Y!Messenger as HPfGU_Chat will log off 
whoever is signed in as HPfGU_Chat...*if* someone is 
indeed already signed in as HPfGU_Chat.  So please sign 
in to Y!Messenger as yourself first to make sure no one is 
already HPfGU_Chat before signing in as HPfGU_Chat.  
But the good thing is, if HPfGU_Chat becomes non-
responsive for whatever reason (what? phones ring...
children and pets require feeding and watering...) it's 
easy enough for someone else to take over the task of 
adding people to the conference.  :)

Ye gads I hope this works...I'm currently signed in as 
HPfGU_Chat so YM me if you want an invite to 
conference.
