Never hives, but for a couple of years (yes, years!) I'd have 
uncontrollable coughing fits every time I entered my hometown library. 
I'd have to know exactly what I wanted and run in, grab it and sign it 
out before I erupted. I suspect there was some kind of dust in there 
that set me off.

I hope you find an antidote - or a good pair of gloves - so you can 
read the book!!
