"Ender's Game" and "Ender's Shadow" By Orson Scott Card.

I also liked the "Artimes Fowl" series by Eoin Colfer.

The book I am currently MOST looking forward to is the second in the
"Inheritance Trilogy" by the very young Christopher Paolini.
...
I also found "The Bartimaeus Trilogy" by Jonathan Stroud very
captivating. I wouldn't call it flawless writing, but it is very good
...
Someone else mentioned " A Series of Unfortunate Events" by Lemony
Snicket, I've always had the feeling that because there are so many
volumes of these books, that they were like the modern equivalent of
Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew. True, those are all time classic books, but I wonder about the substance of them, as in, do they have any? I'm willing to be enlightened by group opinons on the books.
Kemper now:
I forgot about Ender's Game, though I haven't read any else in that particular series, I did like the character Bean and will probably pick it up due to so many recommendations. Ender's Game is the shit when it comes to Sci-Fi. Sci/Fi channel should buy the rights and let loose.
Steve, are you saying Paolini is better than Stroud? I agree with you on so many things, but this...?
To Steve and anyone else considering Lemony Snicket. Don't. It is a series of boring ennui. One might wonder if it is exceeding what is necessary or natural even superfluous to use 'boring' and 'ennui' in the same sentence. Hmm... not how it was used here.
